CAN & “Eli Lilly/CAN Young Neuroscientist Awards” Travel Awards

-> 7/30/2005

Dear Current, Past and Future (we hope) trainee members of CAN,

One of the missions of the Canadian Association for Neuroscience (CAN) is to foster the training of future neuroscientists in Canada. To meet this goal, the Canadian Association for Neuroscience announces a program whereby ten research awards will be made to MSc/PhD students and postdoctoral fellows (PDFs)/MDs based on research to be presented at the 2005 Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience to be held in Washington, DC, November 12-16, 2005. Thanks to the generosity of Eli Lilly Canada, CAN will offer 10 $200 “Eli Lilly/CAN Young Neuroscientist Awards” to trainees who are graduate students or postdoctoral fellows/MDs. In addition, CAN will also sponsor an additional 5 - 10 $200 Travel Awards, depending on the success of our membership renewal drive.  This is your invitation to apply.

The application process is straightforward. Please submit:

1)    A copy of the abstract which you will present at the 2005 Society for Neuroscience Meeting;
2)    Your address (both snail-mail and e-mail);
3)    Your trainee position, eg. graduate student, post-doctoral fellow and whether you are a health care professional (i.e. MD, dentist, nurse, pharmacist or resident);
4)    the name of your supervisor.

Four conditions must be met in order to be eligible for the award:
1)    applicants must be the presenting author of the abstract;
2)    applicants must be a paid up member of CAN ($5 for students, $20 for PDFs and MDs). If you are not currently a member of CAN, please fill in the membership renewal/application form (appended) and submit it along with your application for the award;
3)    if your laboratory is in Canada, your supervisor must also be a paid up member of CAN ($20). If your supervisor is currently not a member of CAN, please please get her/him to fill in the membership renewal/application form (appended) and submit it along with your application for the award;
4)    if you are currently a health care practitioner (i.e. MD, dentist, nurse, pharmacist or resident) you may not use the award to defray travel costs, as this is not permitted under the pharma trade association, Rx and D guidelines that dictate the way in which Eli Lilly can interact with health care professionals.

New deadline for receipt of applications: July 31, 2005.
